Around 700 people filled the auditorium of the Andorra la Vella Congress Center, on the occasion of the conference that Mike Horn, a South African adventurer and explorer, gave as part of the 40th anniversary of the Andorran Red Cross, and with the sponsorship of Aero Autofactoria and Caropticom.
A private reception to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Andorran Red Cross kicked off the Mike Horn conference, an event that drew hundreds of spectators who surrendered at the feet of this iconic explorer. The event was attended by different personalities from communal and national politics, as well as representatives of the Croix-Rouge Française and its Andorran namesake.
The conference ‘From K2 to the North Pole’ was opened by Josep Pol, President of the Andorran Red Cross, who expressed his gratitude to the team of volunteers and to all the people who make the humanitarian work of the organization possible. In the same vein, Olivier and Ada Amengual, both CEOs of the sponsoring companies, introduced pilot Cyril Despres and adventurer Mike Horn, who won over the audience from the start.
In terms of humor and picturesque anecdotes, Despres and Horn, who formed a duo in the Dakar Rally 2020 in the SSV category, narrated their experience, both in this demanding competition and in Senegal, where they met the social reality of ‘this African country. Horn later delved into his experiences on the expedition to the North Pole, where he witnessed the aftermath of climate change caused by humans.
Although the content of the conference was alarming and worrying, in terms of the impact of human actions on the environment, Mike Horn was able to captivate the audience with his charisma and message of hope, with which he invited to all present to appreciate life and nature more actively.
