A “0 km” vehicle is a vehicle that has already been registered for the first time and whose mileage is very low (< 50 km)

Taxes and government assistance
The ecological bonus-malus system is a government mechanism set up with the aim of reducing the quantity of CO2 emitted by motor vehicles, by renewing the French car fleet.
What is the ecological penalty?
The ecological penalty is an increase in the purchase price of the vehicle aimed at sanctioning the acquisition or rental of a polluting vehicle. Concretely, the increase concerns the cost of registration of vehicles registered for the first time in France since January 1, 2008.
This tax varies according to the quantity of CO2 (carbon dioxide) emitted, and applies from 110 grams of CO2 emitted per km since 01/01/2021: the more CO2 the vehicle emits, the greater the ecological penalty.
Which vehicles are affected by the ecological penalty?
The ecological penalty will be charged to the driver in the following cases:
- For a private vehicle that has never been registered in France (bought or rented new, or imported new or used in France), the penalty is due at the time of the 1st registration in France.
- For a private vehicle already registered in France, these taxes are added to the pollution tax already in place since 2004 for the purchase or rental of a polluting second-hand vehicle, when the vehicle is registered.
The driver can know the vehicle’s emission rate thanks to its CO2 labeling.
What are the cases of reduction or exemption from the ecological penalty?
The ecological penalty may be reduced for vehicles with at least 5 seats acquired or rented by a large family comprising at least 3 children (1 vehicle per household). The CO2 emission rate taken into account for calculating the penalty is then reduced by 20 g per child.
Certain vehicles are exempt from the ecological penalty:
Vehicles registered as “disabled passenger car bodywork”, or acquired by a person holding the disability card, or for which a dependent is the holder of the disability card (1 vehicle per household).

The alternatives: hybrid car, electric car and ecological bonus
Thanks to this ecological bonus-malus system, there is real encouragement for the purchase of less polluting vehicles. Granting a bonus to motorists would make it easier to acquire a electric car , or a hybrid car, vehicles that emit a limited amount of CO2.

The price indicated on your quote is systematically excluding VAT and you will have to pay VAT to the tax center on which you depend, with the following documents:
