The new Honda Jazz e: HEV received the maximum 5-star rating in the latest round of Euro NCAP safety tests, which now feature a set of new, more rigorous ratings.
The Jazz, built on an advanced new body structure, comes standard with a full suite of active safety and driver assistance technologies. This combination of carefully integrated active and passive safety systems consolidates the model’s reputation as one of the safest passenger cars in Europe.
Available only with a hybrid engine, the new Jazz is the first Honda model in Europe to be fitted with a front central airbag as standard. Housed in the back of the driver’s seat, it deploys in the space between the driver and the passenger, helping to avoid direct contact between the heads of the occupants of the front seats in the event of a side collision.
To ensure that the airbag deploys properly to provide maximum protection, it includes three anchor points that guide it around the driver. To achieve this result, the engineering team designed the airbag module to fit into the upper part of the new driver’s seat.
In the event of a side impact, the new front center airbag works in concert with two other systems. Driver and passenger seat belt pretensioners reduce occupant lateral movement, with the reinforcement of a now higher center armrest. This new design has the effect of significantly reducing head injuries, both for the occupant on the impact side and the occupant on the opposite side.
This new airbag is one of 10 that are standard on the Jazz e: HEV, which also has a rear side airbag system. This unique dual-structure airbag installed in the rear seat cushion deploys to protect rear occupants from impact to the door and C-pillar in a side crash. In addition, thanks to its compact size, the airbag does not interfere with the functionality of the Magic seats in the Jazz.
Passive safety features are combined with Honda SENSING state-of-the-art active safety and driver assistance technologies, now featuring a high-definition panoramic camera. This replaces the multi-function camera and sensor duo of the previous generation of Jazz. It recognizes a more complete range of road surfaces and traffic conditions. The Honda SENSING suite, standard on all Honda models, also includes, among a host of other features, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keeping Assist and Lane Departure Warning System. road.
During the design and development of the latest Jazz, Honda engineers also incorporated the brand’s “Advanced Compatibility Engineering ™ (ACE ™)” body structure technology, which forms the basis of its excellent performance. passive safety. ACE technology contributes to a more even distribution of impact energy across the front end of the vehicle, and also reduces collision energy transmitted to the other vehicle.
The new generation of Jazz was launched in Europe in the summer of 2020 and is equipped with a high-tech and responsive hybrid powertrain; it is the spearhead of the brand’s strategy to electrify 100% of its European consumer models by 2022
